The second ‘ber’ month already? Where did the time go? Is it just me or is the same with everyone, in feeling like we didn’t have a sunny’ summer?
Anyway, Happy New Month! I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to write for this month or let’s just say, I had nothing planned until I was in my usual place, which one might say not the most interesting place to be hearing or getting ideas, lol, but I do.
This time around it started off with me thinking about the new structure of my radio show. So, I have been working on our new merchandise, yes, new merchandise, I won’t spoil it for you. If you want to know more about it, tune in to my Saturday radio show and you will get the full details. Anyhow, that is how this title came about. It is based on a scripture from 2 Kings 4 One of the things we do as a ministry is use our platform to encourage women. Giving exposure to them through interviews etc. but for now, let us focus on this month’s blog.
2 Kings 4. 1-7
1 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”
2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbours—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”
And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
Remember Elisha asked what she had in her house, and she said nothing, except a jar of oil.
Note that the oil never ran out until she had no more vessels. Elisha needed something to work with. It was a miracle, but he asked, ‘What do you have in your house’?
So, I ask you the same question what do you have in your house?
What do you have in your hands?
What are you good at?
- One thing I must point out from this scripture is that the widow had FAITH to believe. To believe something will happen. So, when you come before the Lord with whatever is in your home, believe! Trust that as He speaks and instructs you, Obey and make a move, if not, nothing will happen. Eisha did not pour the oil into the vessels for her. Elisha instructed her to pour it.
- The miracle was also given according to the measure of her faith.
So have faith as you begin to receive instruction from the Lord to act.
We also see in the book of Exodus 4:2-9 CEV The LORD answered, “What’s that in your hand?” “A walking stick,” Moses replied. “Throw it down!” the LORD commanded. So, Moses threw the stick on the ground.
If we continue to read the book of Exodus, we see God use the rod of Moses to perform so many miracles.
We live in challenging times where many are finding it difficult to have even a two-square meal a day! As believers in Christ, the Lord has gifted us with so many ideas.
So, I ask again, what is in your hands?
When Elijah visited the widow in Zarapeth as The Lord commanded him, he asked the woman to go and bake bread for him; from there, a miracle happened. They were able to live on the flour until the famine was over.
1 Kings 17:12-16
12 “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.
13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.
14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So, there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.
I ask again, what is in your hand? God requires something from us that He can work with.
If you are not sure, get a note pad and pen and start writing the things you are good at, and enjoy doing? It could be cooking, writing, knitting, baking and so many more.
Why don’t you write them down and present it before The Lord?
Talk to Him about it and ask for wisdom and direction as to where to go with this idea.
It is still three months before the end of the year. Today is the first day, why not start taking that step?
Until next time, blessings!
Lydia xx
