“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
In today’s world, beauty is everywhere: on screens, on social media platforms, in magazines,
on billboards. How to find “beauty” is readily available. Most ladies don’t see themselves
as beautiful anymore or appreciate how God created them. From an early age, women are often
taught to value charm, physical appearance, and external accomplishments. Proverbs 31:30
gently, yet firmly, redirects our gaze.
Ross says, “Physical appearance is not necessarily dismissed—it simply does not endure as do
those qualities that the fear of the Lord produces…one who pursues beauty may very well be
disappointed by the character of the ‘beautiful’ person.”
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
This verse reminds us that the things the world applauds: charm, charisma, flawless beauty, are
not lasting. They are temporary, momentary, and can even be misleading. Charm can mask true
intentions. Beauty fades with time. Whether with age, childbirth or whatever it is, it can fade, but
the fear of the Lord: reverence, obedience, love for God, is what endures.
King Lemuel’s mother made us aware of the passing nature of outer beauty and the deceitful
nature of manipulative charm. Thank God for Godly mothers and grandmothers, raising Godly
children and always giving Godly counsel. Proverbs 1:8b affirms the importance of children
following the instructions of their mother: “Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction”. That was just
a side note.
What Does It Mean to Fear the Lord?
To fear the Lord doesn’t mean to cower in anxiety. It means to hold God in holy awe, to honour
Him above all else, and to live in obedience to His Word. It means living with purpose, knowing
that God sees beyond appearance, He looks at the heart.
A woman who fears the Lord builds her life on unshakable ground. Her strength comes from
God, not from how others perceive her. She walks in wisdom, speaks with grace, and serves
with love. This is why she is truly worthy of praise.
Redefining Praise
This kind of woman may or may not turn heads in a crowd, but heaven sees her clearly. You
may not be as beautiful according to ‘the world’s definition’, but your beauty radiates from within.
Your quiet prayers, faithful service, and tender compassion are noticed by the One who matters
most. God delights in you. He loves you dearly and sees you. God, you’re lovely, see your tears in
your secret place. He cherishes you and says, you are mine! Be encouraged.
The world’s praise is often loud and fleeting, but the praise spoken over a godly woman echoes
in eternity. It’s not about popularity; it’s about purpose. Not about perfection; it’s about devotion.
Verse 31 of Proverbs 31 affirms her… it says Reward her for all she has done. May you be
a beautiful woman of God reading this blog. May your deeds publicly declare your praise.
Living Proverbs 31:30 Today
As modern women, we are invited to rest in God’s definition of beauty. Whether we’re single,
married, mothers, or grandmothers, we are called to live lives marked by godly fear, not worldly
pressure.
Let your life speak of God’s faithfulness. Let your legacy be one of grace, humility, and
deep trust in Him. That is the beauty that never fades.
Prayer
Pray this with me, “Lord, help me to value what You value. Teach me to walk in the fear of You,
to delight in Your Word, and to live for Your glory. May my life be marked not by outward charm,
but by inward devotion, loving you daily and putting you first in all I do. Amen.”
Until next time, stay blessed
