Rooted!

I decided to write on this topic as I believe God has been speaking to me on the importance of reading HIS word and meditate on it.

David says in the book of Psalm 119:10-12  “With my whole heart have I sought You, inquiring for and of You and yearning for You; Oh, let me not wander or step aside [either in ignorance or willfully] from Your commandments.

11 Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

12 Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes.

These verses are my heart cry, and I pray it will be yours too in Jesus’ name. May The Lord teach us His ways and statues as we mediate on His word and cry out to know Him more. Writing this blog, I am sitting in my sofa with Superbook in the background. The title is ‘Rescued!’ The episode is full of different men in the Bible that the Lord rescued. They include The Three Hebrew boys, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednago, it then moved on to Jonah, then Daniel. It made me start thinking and reminded of the importance of knowing the God we serve so well that we can declare in time to come and challenges that we will not bow down to any other God. So, stay in the Word, stay with God.

The Scripture, I was meditating on is from Joshua 1:8.

Joshua 1:8 AMP says:

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good [b]success.

The NLT version says Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”Joshua 1:8 (NLT)

What does it mean to be rooted?

Rooted, from the Oxford dictionary says developing from or being strongly influenced by something.

From my research, in a biblical context, “rooted” signifies a deep and stable foundation in faith, symbolising spiritual nourishment and growth. It represents being firmly established in one’s relationship with God, drawing strength and sustenance from this connection. For instance, Jeremiah 17:8 compares a person who trusts in the Lord to a tree with deep roots, thriving even in adversity. Overall, being rooted is essential for spiritual stability and resilience in life’s challenges.

According to Bibledictionarytoday.com, The word “rooted” holds significant meaning in the Bible, conveying deep spiritual truths and practical applications for believers. Understanding the meaning of the word rooted in the Bible provides insight into how we can cultivate our spiritual lives and establish a strong foundation in faith.

In a world where there are lots of loud voices and deception, it’s easy to feel like we’re always one step behind. The pressure to compromise, perform, achieve, and stay relevant is real. But making time to spend time with The Lord and meditate on Scriptures is paramount.

In our fast-paced world, people are constantly searching for keys to success: books, courses, podcasts, and motivational talks flood our screens. Yet long before modern self-help strategies, God showed Joshua the way to true success. It had nothing to do with personal ambition, charisma, or being financially savvy. It had everything to do with God’s Word.

Joshua 1:8 gives us this timeless truth:

1. “Study this Book of Instruction continually.”

Notice the word continually. Not occasionally, not only when life falls apart, not just on Sundays. The Word of God is meant to be a constant part of our lives, something we actively study, wrestle with, and apply.

For Joshua, leading an entire nation into the Promised Land was no small task. God didn’t hand him a military strategy, a political guide, or a motivational speech. He gave him one command: stay rooted in the Word. Why? Because every decision, every step forward, and every challenge would require divine wisdom not human strength.

When we declare Scripture, we begin to internalise its power. Our words create an atmosphere: either of faith or fear. Speaking God’s promises over our lives, families, and situations activates faith and aligns our mindset with heaven’s reality.

2. “Meditate on it day and night…”

Meditation in the biblical sense isn’t about emptying your mind; it’s about filling it with truth. When we meditate on God’s Word, we are slowly chewing on His promises, letting them sink deep into our hearts and shape the way we think.

It’s in those quiet, reflective moments that Scripture begins to shift our mindset. Anxiety turns to peace. Fear turns to courage. Confusion gives way to clarity.

3. “So you will be sure to obey everything written in it.”

The goal isn’t just knowledge, it’s obedience.

God isn’t calling us to become scholars of His Word for the sake of information. He wants transformation. His truth is meant to be lived out, practiced, and embodied. Obedience is the bridge between hearing the Word and experiencing its power.

This is where many of us get stuck. We read it, we believe it, but we hesitate to live it. Yet it’s in the doing that we grow. Trusting God enough to obey even when it’s hard is where true spiritual maturity begins.

4. “Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

This is God’s promise but it’s on His terms.

Prosperity in the Bible isn’t always about material gain. It’s about wholeness, flourishing, and walking in alignment with God’s purposes. Success, in God’s definition, means fulfilling the unique calling He’s placed on your life, rooted in a relationship with Him.

It’s not about achieving more; it’s about becoming more like Him.

A Quiet Revolution

What if the greatest revolution in your life didn’t start with a breakthrough moment but with a quiet commitment?

A decision to open your Bible before you open your phone.
A practice of meditating on truth instead of dwelling on fear.
A resolve to obey even when it’s costly.

God gave Joshua a simple but powerful blueprint for strength, courage, and lasting success and He offers the same to you.

Applications:

  • Today, why not try beginning your day by declaring a verse aloud. Let it set the tone for your thoughts and choices.
  • Choose one verse and revisit it in the morning and evening. Ask God what He wants to reveal to you through it. Journaling your thoughts can also help deepen the meditation.
  • After reading Scripture, ask: “What is God asking me to do?” Obedience is the bridge between revelation and breakthrough.

How is your relationship with the Word? What’s one step you can take to deepen it this week?

Until next time, stay rooted in God’s word.
